Darrow School 10×10 Workshops @ Lichtenstein Center for the Arts

Ted Lightburn, Science Department Chair, Hands-to-Work Director – Students from The Darrow School will demonstrate air pressure concepts through a hands-on demonstration where children will make a Cartesian Diver that they can take home with them. These Darrow Juniors in high school have recently completed a unit on gas pressure. They will be able to explain how pressure and volume are related in an experiment that they can re-create almost anywhere with easily found materials. Suitable for all ages.

Records and Burpee Zoo Show @ Berkshire Museum

All Ages. Meet seven live animals from the Records and Burpee Zoo and learn about their adaptations, how they survive in the wild, and the consequences of keeping wild animals as pets.

At the Animation Station, kids and adults will explore the world of animation and learn how to create their own animations using various methods as part of The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons.

Free Skating Opportunity @ Boys & Girls Club

The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, The City of Pittsfield Recreation Program and the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires invite the first 100 people through the door during the Public Skate at the Pittsfield Boys & Girls Club to free admission for skating as well as free skate rental if needed (limited size availability).

The Darrow Theater Workshop members, led by Jennifer Pytleski Performing Arts Department Chair, Theater Director, English Teacher, will be facilitating a workshop focused on youth devised work. Participants will have the chance to build a 10-minute play informed by theater games, stories, and the space we are creating in.

Invasive Vine Extravaganza Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) event @ Springside Park, Pittsfield MA

Start your weekend off right and help eradicate destructive invasive hardy kiwi at the same time! Gloves and tools will be provided, but we encourage you to bring extra tools if you have them (loppers, pruning sheers, and pruning saws). Meet at the Burbank Park Boat Launch.

Hardy Kiwi is an exotic invasive ornamental that threatens forests in western Massachusetts through complete domination of mature trees. Once it germinates, it will climb surrounding vegetation and eventually kill its support. Hardy kiwi can grow over 20 feet in a year. It has become a major problem in places such as Kennedy Park and Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, and now Burbank Park. Meet at the Onota Lake boat launch.
