The 10X10 On North Festival is here!

The 10X10 on North is the Berkshires’ first ever winter contemporary arts festival! Running from Thursday, February 16th through Sunday, February 26th in downtown Pittsfield, the festival features new art, new theatre, new poetry, new songs, new burlesque, and even new comedy! 10X10 On North is generously sponsored by Greylock Federal Credit Union, Berkshire Gas, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Opening Thursday: TEN SPOT Art Show

The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts presents TEN SPOT, a show of new work by 10 contemporary Berkshire artists: Ven Voisey, Melissa Lillie & Sean Riley of North Adams; Marianne Petit & Brent Whitney of Adams; Richard Britell, Joe Goodwin and Olive Thomas of Pittsfield; Bart Arnold of Lenox and Kiki Dufault of Great Barrington. The artists are also highlighted in 10 billboards around the Berkshires! TEN SPOT is curated by Lauren Clark, owner of Lauren Clark Fine Arts in Housatonic; Jonathan Secor, Director of MCLA’s Gallery 51 in North Adams; and Megan Whilden.

Opening Thursday: Local Ink at Shawn’s Barber Shop

Shawn’s Barber Shop presents Local Ink, an art exhibit curated by local artist Phil Bastow as part of the 10X10 on North festival. The exhibit will feature 10X10 graphic stories by local artists Phil Bastow, Eamonn Berry, Michael Bushy, Joe Wilk and others at the latest downtown home for the alternative art scene.

Thursday-next Sunday: 10X10 New Play Festival at Barrington Stage!

Barrington Stage Company presents 10 exciting new 10 minute plays written by 10 different playwrightsl! Six versatile actors create a diverse and lively world, spinning off of the theme of Entrances & Exits, about people connecting with each other in various ways — funny, sad, cautious, competitive, half-hearted, romantic and hostile. Meet the cast and creative team here!

Thursdays & Sundays: Smartphone Film Festival at the Beacon!The Beacon Cinema and the Berkshire International Film Festival join together for the Berkshires’ first ever Smartphone Film Festival –  — as part of the 10X10 on North festival. Among the local filmmakers participating are Ben Hillman, Mark Pedrotti and Kevin Sprague. The complete program will be shown on Thursday, February 16 and 23 at 7pm and again on Sunday, February 19 and 26 at 2pm. Individual shorts will be featured throughout the week before the regularly scheduled films.

Kicking off Thursday: 10 Poets at Y Bar
Y Bar presents a line-up of outstanding poets as part of the 10X10 on North festival. Home to the wildly successful weekly Writers Room, the 10X10 lineup includes standout performers from the Word X Word festival.  Gabriel Squailia (Feb. 16), James Burden (Feb. 17), Matt McFadden (Feb. 18), Matt Bialer (Feb. 19), Greer Hed (Feb. 20), Emily Pulfer-Terino (Feb. 21), Jim Benson (Feb. 22), Matthew Rodriguez (Feb. 24), Curtis Asch (Feb. 25) and Kate Abbott (Feb. 26) and another poet, to be announced, will perform. Mission Bar + Tapas presents a line-up of fantastic singer-songwriters, including outstanding performers from the Word X Word festival. Opening Friday: 10X10X25 Art Show 
Gallery 25 hosts a show of 10 new works of art by 10 of its most celebrated artists. The show runs for the duration of the festival, which takes place February 16 through 26. With a broad range of approaches and styles, the focus in this exhibit is on painters, though elements of mixed media will certainly be present. Meet the artists here!

Friday: Known Unknowns Quiz ShowNEW Stage Performing Arts Center hosts its in-house comedy pub quiz, focussing on Pittsfield and the 10X10 Festival. Combining elements of a traditional pub quiz and a live sketch show, Known Unknowns is a freewheeling, interactive game show that’s as much fun those who don’t know the answers as those who do. Cash bar. 21+.

Friday & Saturday: Burlesque 10X10

The Ferrin Gallery presents Burlesque 10X10, a 10-minute performance piece including poetry, dance, music and the history of burlesque. Created especially for the 10X10 on North festival, Ms. Karen Lee and poet Marc Zegan’s Burlesque 10X10 will educate and titillate; tease and please, capturing the very essence of this essential genre in American musical theater history, accompanied by live music.

Saturday: The 10×10 Comedy Variety Show!

NEW Stage Performing Arts Center presents 10 comedy acts, including monologues, music, stand up, sketch, improve and film. Whatever is funny and strange will be on display, as acts from all over the Northeast take the stage in a night of comedy that’s not to be missed!

Monday: 10 Minute Tangos at Pittsfield Bra & Girl

Pittsfield Bra &Girl celebrates the art of dance with 10-minute tangos performed by TangoPulse as part of the 10X10 on North festival. Come enjoy the sultry art of tango in a beautiful space designed to celebrate the inner and outer beauty of every woman. TangoPulse performers will also be available for 10 minute tango lessons. Refreshments will be served.

Next Friday: Live Painting & Music at Massive GraphicsMassive Graphics hosts live painting performances by ten local artists with live music by DJ Quikmonee, Nostalgia, Vorhees of the Problematics and special guests. The featured artists will have their other artwork on display and for purchase. And get a custom 10X10 on North t-shirt printed on the spot while enjoying art and live music.

Next Saturday: One Actor X 10 Characters

Berkshire Actors Theatre presents this one man show performing for one night only at the Ferrin Gallery! One man will portray 10 characters in 10 minutes! Directed by Founding Artistic Director Clover Bell-Devaney and performed by local Berkshire actor Colin Gold, this sweet, silly, simple snippet is not to be missed.

Next Thursday & Friday: Community Art Days at Bisque, Beads & Beyond

It’s February Vacation Week, and kids ages 5-1o are invited to create a handpainting mug at Bisque, Beads & Beyond! Friday there’s free classes for Greylock Youth Club members (ticket required, available from the main Greylock branch on West Street) and Thursday classes are open to all and just $10 (includes all materials & firing!)
