City Hall Takes Part in December 7 First Fridays Artwalk
Some of Pittsfield’s most accomplished artists will have their work displayed on the walls of Pitsfield’s City Hall this month, thanks to Pittsfield Mayor Daniel Bianchi and his wife, Theresa Bianchi. The idea for the show first came from Pittsfield First Lady Theresa Bianchi, who wanted City Hall to be a showcase for the extraordinary talents of local artists for all to enjoy, especially visitors from out of town.
“We’ve loved meeting local artists and enjoying their work each month during the First Fridays Artswalk downtown,” noted Mrs. Bianchi. “And we wanted to share it with everyone who comes to City Hall, from city employees and community members to Congressman and Senators.”
Featured artists include Morris Bennett, Marge Bride, Joan Ciolfi, Susan Geller, Grier Horner, Anne Roland and Scott Taylor. All are longtime residents of Pittsfield and active in the cultural scene. The show features both representational work, favored by Mrs. Bianchi, and abstract work, a particular favorite of the Mayor.
Morris Bennett is an art teacher who paints both traditional landscapes and avant garde abstracts. One of his most recent students was Mayor Daniel Bianchi, before he was elected. Marge Bride is best known for her watercolors of local scenes throughout the seasons. Joan Ciolfi’s elegant landscapes and figures have been exhibited widely. Susan Geller’s photographs capture the spirit of the Berkshires, while the artwork of Grier Horner, a retired managing editor of the Berkshire Eagle, is inspired by a variety of themes. Anne Roland is an accomplished artist best known for her delicate still lifes in colored pencil, while Scott Taylor’s vibrant landscapes and abstracts have been exhibited widely throughout the region.
The First Annual Mayor and First Lady’s Invitational City Hall Art Show opens with a reception on Friday, December 7th from 5pm to 8pm, in tandem with the First Fridays Artswalk in downtown Pittsfield the same evening. The show is open for viewing during City Hall’s open hours, which are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4pm as well as evening hours when meetings are held, through January 31, 2013.
