The Pittsfield Suns Baseball Club (Futures Collegiate Baseball League) announced today that pitcher Jeff Thomas and infielder Chad Funkhouser have each received post-season honors based on their 2012 performances.
Thomas, a Redwood City, Calif., native, was named an All-Region selection by D3Baseball.com and will be part of Suns manager Jamie Keefe’s late inning-plan. As a 6’-1”, 210-pound junior at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, Thomas was the top reliever for the Beacons, posting a sparkling .490 ERA in 18 1/3 innings pitched with five saves.
“It’s always great to have a guy with stats like [Thomas’s],” said Keefe. “He’s proven to be reliable during crunch time and we are certainly counting on him to do the same for us.”
Funkhouser, from Poquoson, Va., was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year, with a season batting average of .346 and a .425 on-base percentage at Brevard College. In conference play, Funkhouser batted .380, scoring 22 runs with 22 runs batted in. Funkhouser was also tied for the team lead in doubles (12).
“[Funkhouser] has shown a maturity beyond his age,” said Keefe. “I look forward to penciling his name in the lineup every day.”
