The Marketplace Café is seeking 10 young singer-songwriters to partake in one of two special performances as part of the second-annual 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival to be held February 14-24, 2013. Potential performers can be male or female. They must be under 30 years of age and be prepared to play 20 minutes of original music. Performances are scheduled to take place on Thursday & Friday, February 21-22 from 6:30pm-8:30pm, featuring five singer-songwriters each night.
Each interested performer should submit a proposal including a bio, performance history and a sample of his or her music to email@example.com by Friday, February 1, 2013. You may also drop a proposal off in person at The Marketplace Café at 53 North Street in Pittsfield, Mass.
The Marketplace Café is not simply a destination for tasty sandwiches, freshly-brewed coffee and artisan baked goods; it has become a destination for great, local, live music. From its monthly Young Artists Open Mic events to its popular Thursdays Live! performances and various solo shows, The Marketplace is giving an opportunity to musical artists of all ages—mostly youthful—to be heard in front of a friendly audience in an intimate atmosphere.
Held in downtown Pittsfield in February 2012, the inaugural festival—named 10X10 On North—was Pittsfield’s first-ever winter contemporary arts festival. Now in its second year, renamed the 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival, the festival is expanding in size and geography to include more programming in venues throughout the city’s newly designated Upstreet Cultural District.
Last winter’s inaugural 10X10 festival creatively enlivened downtown Pittsfield for 11 days, attracting 3,000 visitors. From February 16-26, 2012, there were 44 performances featuring more than 120 new works including plays, songwriters, poets, visual art, film and dance. 10X10 Upstreet will feature signature programming such as the 10X10 New Play Festival at Barrington Stage Company, the Ten Spot art show at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, the Smartphone Film Festival at the Beacon Cinema and much more.
For more information on submitting a proposal for consideration for The Marketplace Café’s young artists’ showcase as part of the 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 413-358-4777.
