What’s in a Name? The Streets of Pittsfield
The streets of Pittsfield bear the names of directions, numbers, seasons, flowers, trees, and people. Who are these people who grace the names of our streets and what were their contributions to the city?
As part of Pittsfield’s 10 x 10 Arts Festival in 2021, the virtual exhibit “What’s in a Name? The Streets of Pittsfield” explores who are the people our streets are named after. For the each of the ten days of the festival, from February 11 – 21, a panel will be revealed that highlights those honored on our sign posts.
The Berkshire County Historical Society undertook this project with the collaboration of Chris Laney at Berkshire Community College and the Local History Department at the Berkshire Athenaeum.
