10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival Returns to Pittsfield

The City of Pittsfield’s Upstreet Cultural District has a sure cure for cabin fever this February: the third annual 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival featuring a lively array of art, theatre, dance, film, music and more from February 13-23, 2014 in the hub of the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. The Festival’s lead sponsor is Berkshire Gas.

Additional sponsors include the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Greylock Federal Credit Union, Berkshire Eagle and Lamar Advertising.

Organized by the City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development and Barrington Stage Company, the festival features dozens of artists, actors, musicians, playwrights, comedians and performers. Festival partners this year include Berkshire Museum, Berkshire Theatre Group, the Whitney Center for the Arts, Miss Hall’s School, Berkshire Art Association, the Crowne Plaza, the Beacon Cinema, Berkshire International Film Festival, the Berkshire Music School, the Laugh Lounge, Gypsy Layne Cabaret, and more.


TEN SPOT Art Show opening rescheduled

The kickoff of the 3rd annual TEN SPOT art show has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 18th, due to today’s snow storm.  Come enjoy delectable food & drink from Mission Bar & Tapas, including a sneak preview of their new menu. The annual TEN SPOT art show  highlights ten of the best contemporary artists in the Berkshires. This year’s featured artists are Laurie McLeod, Douglas Paisley (at left), Scott Taylor, Jeanet Ingalls, Michael Rousseau, Peter Gordon, Peggy Rivers, Joanie Ciolfi, Karl Mullen, and Crispina ffrench. 

The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts is free to all and open Wednesday-Saturday, noon to 5pm. The TEN SPOT art show will be on display through March 1st.

Beacon Cinema TEN Film Series

The Beacon Cinema and the Berkshire International Film Festival present four diverse films with the word TEN in their title for the 10×10 Festival. All screenings are free thanks to the good folks at NBT Bank.

Barrington Stage’s 10×10 New Play Festival

Due to the storm, Barrington Stage’s 10×10 New Play Festival begins Friday, February 14th, and continues, by popular demand, through March 2nd. Enjoy ten new ten minute plays – every ten minutes, a new story begins! – chosen from over 150 entries!

TEEN TEN Art Show Rescheduled!

The second annual Teen Ten art show at Pittsfield City Hall is organized by Miss Hall’s Schoolstudents. Over 100 artworks by Berkshire teens were posted online at for the public to view and vote for their favorites. The top ten votegetters are displayed at City Hall, and will received awards from Mayor Dan Bianchi at the reception next Thursday!

Ten Days of Play at the Berkshire Museum!

Back by popular demand! Imagine the Museum’s Crane Room completely transformed by your child’s imagination through the use of readily available recyclable materials: cardboard boxes, tubes, tape and more! Pop-Up Adventure Play gives children of all ages the opportunity to recognize, explore, and express their natural play instincts through this celebration of child-directed play. Ten Fingered Jazz with the Roy Gerson Trio

An intimate evening of jazz, cabaret style, presented by Berkshires Jazz. The Roy Gerson Trio features jazz piano standout Roy Gerson. He’ll put his unique spin on historic and iconic jazz compositions that were popularized by 10 different jazz pianists over the decades.

Two Nights, Ten Comedians!

The Laugh Lounge, the Berkshires’ leading comedy presenter, returns to the 10×10 Festival with another terrific weekend of laughter!  Each night features a completely new lineup of comedians with 4 of the best local/regional comics followed by a national touring comic!

Friday’s headliner is brilliantly funny headliner Mike Vecchione, featured on Comedy Central, NBC’s Last Comic Standing and The Tonight Show, and winner of the People’s Choice Award at the2010 NY Comedy Festival.

Saturday’s headliner is Adrienne Iapalucci (left), recently featured on the Late Show With David Letterman and is also a winner of the NY Comedy Festival’s People’s Choice Award (2009), and was a semifinalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Ten Real & Imagined Shaker Inventions
Did the Shakers really invent the circular saw, the seed packet, clothes pins, the round barn, the flat broom, and more?  Come to this presentation, and see for yourself!The Shakers are credited with inventing a large number of now-common everyday items, as well as more unique, unusual things.  In this illustrated talk,Hancock Shaker Village staff Lesley Herzberg and Todd Burdick will explore this topic, and reveal information on 10 real and supposed Shaker-invented items.Learn about which ones are actually a Shaker invention, which are not, and which might be because scholars and historians still debate the issue.

Ten Musicals: Unscripted

The Royal Berkshire Improv Troupe (RBIT)explores the boundaries of theater improvisation through audience participation and the use of theater games reminiscent of the TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway? For this special 10X10 performance, RBIT will collaborate with musician Carlton Maaia to perform 10 unscripted short musicals providing the greatest spontaneous musical theatre ever seen!
